THE FISH FRY

Plan your trip to catch and eat fresh Alaskan salmon in Valdez when you come. We put on complimentary fish fries for our guests every year and its just oh so good! Our fish fries usually start around the middle of June to the third week of July, but are contingent upon the salmon showing up and on beautiful weather. We almost always have a fish fry on the 4th of July.

DON’T MISS OUT ON OUR TASTY FISH FRY! Make your June or July reservation now.

Laura: “The way we plan a fish fry is to check first thing in the morning and make sure it’s a nice day. We make sure they’re doing fishing that day so we can get some fish. We let the staff know, it’s like hey, we’re gonna go try to get some fish we’re gonna give you a call, if we get the fish we want you to go through the park and let everybody know that we’re gonna have a fish fry or the fish fry’s on!”

Jeff: “I go over to the liquor store, I get my bait, it’s two cases of beer usually.”

Laura: Jeff usually will grab the fish barrels from the shop and throw them in the back of the six-wheeler, and he picks me up down here at the office and we take off over and get on our boat and take those 55-gallon barrels with us, two or three of them usually, and go out and get on the radio and find out which boat is about ready to bring some fish in, and we pull up there and patiently wait for them to finish getting all their fish on there.”

Jeff: [We] kind of have pre-determined boats that we talk to and we get the fish off them sein boats.”

Laura: The commercial guys are really good about helping us pitch those fish into the barrels.”

Jeff: And then we bring them back, we back our six-wheeler right down to the boat, unload the barrels.”

Laura: [We] try to find a couple beefy guys to help us get the barrels off the boat, if not, Jeff and I lift the barrels off the boat.”

Jeff: “We got a lot of people that help in the park for filleting fish.”

Laura: [We] spend a little family time around the fish cleaning table out back, and talking and cleaning fish.”

Jeff: We get them all ready, put them in the cooler, and usually that night we… about 5, 6 o’clock, we start cutting them up into chunks that are easy to fry, and then we setup tables.”

Laura: “He starts frying fish about a half-hour before we’ve notified people, but as soon as they see him start throwing fish on the grill, they start showing up with their plates… The Eagle’s Rest fish fry is free to our guests, lots of fun, GOOD FOOD, lots of good food from everywhere… *laughter* …I love the food! There’s lots of good food!”
